New Year, New Skills Part 1 - Tapestery

The start of a new year is always the perfect opportunity to set yourself so goals, so I decided 2012 will be my year to expand my craft skills. As mentioned previously I want to have a bash at embroidery, crochet and papercutting. So high on my Christmas list this year was a copy of Emily Peacock's book 'Adventures in Needlecraft'
I really love her contemporary style so thought it would be the perfect book for me to learn more about embroidery.

The book is divided into 4 chapters covering different area's of needlework. Each section has a number of projects starting with beginner and becoming more challenging as you work your way thrugh. The first section covers canvas work or tapestry and has 5 different projects, the next is applique with 3 projects, the third silk shading and the last goldwork. For me the Canvas work and the silk shading are the most appealing and there are a number of projects I want to try, so I decided to dive straight in with one of the slightly more difficult canvas work projects. I ordered my canvas from Willow Fabrics as it seemed the most reasonable I then ordered my wool from Sew Exciting, I had to wait a little while as I did order during the Christmas period, but eventually everything arrived and I could finally make a start the other day.

So after two days working on it, this is my progress so far:

Apologies it's not the right way round, it should be landscape, but the computer wasn't playing ball.
I will keep you updated on my progress :)
